Short Description: This longer issue is packed with numerous stories about mixed-race families, identities and struggles. Nia once again edits the collection and brings forth the voices of numerous awesome contributors. This is by far becoming one of my favorite zines, as each issue shares so many important stories that fight back against the easily accepted and state supported idea of fixed identity. Definitely read this!
Full Description: TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT! PLEASE DO NOT ORDER UNTIL RESTOCKED!
Juli writes about the intense anxiety she developed as a young transracially adopted child; Charlotte explores the ghosts in her family whose queer histories have been erased over time; Jackie discusses the restrictions her mother placed on her in order to deny her access to her Chinese heritage; Jillian reacts to pivotal world events and feels torn within her mixed race identity, thus strongly desiring a third place to be her whole self; Claudia problematizes her parents' relationship in order to understand her own identity construction; Nadia questions her own socialization that taught her to be fearful of Arab men; Stevie asks strong questions about mixed-race relationships in which he examines the statistics about the large proportion of Asian overrepresentation in mixed-race America; and Patti fights against the marginalization of Korean military wives as she see grew up witnessing her own mother's painful ostracizing.
These stories are really well-written and demanding your attention.
